After many months of slowly switching over to a more natural skin care routine, I have finally found one that works pretty well, so I thought I would share! I have combination skin, it can get a little oily around my hair line, and dry around my nose. With a little testing, and trial and error, I found some good products that are relatively cheap.
Makeup Removal- I shower at the end of the day, and the first thing I do is remove all of my makeup (aka, whatever is left after it wore off throughout the day). I use a little bit of coconut oil for this. I just put a little bit on a cotton ball and gently rub it over my eyelids/brows/lashes. It works very well!
Face Wash- I either wash with a tiny bit of the lavender Castile soap, or with plain ol' baking soda.
Face Scrub- I tend to use this mostly in the morning, but sometimes I will use this coffee ground + cocoa scrub at night if I forget to in the morning. I use this about 2-3 times per week.
Toner- I use this apple cider vinegar toner that I make myself. Cheap, easy, and it works wonders.
Acne Treatment- For zits (yeah, I still get those) I dab a bit of tea tree oil on problem spots. The zit will dry up, usually pretty quickly.
Moisturizer- I put a small amount of coconut oil on my face for a moisturizer, if need be. It is a super light oil, so it doesn't leave my face feel coated at all. Sometimes I just dab a little on the dry spots, and that is it.
Under Eye Care- This is the only product that I haven't done a DIY on yet, mostly because I really love this stuff. It is Burt's Bees Royal Jelly Eye Cream. I can't even remember when I bought this, because a little bit goes a long way, and I have had this tiny jar for ages. It is probably expired for all I know, but whateves. It works great.
That is it! Pretty simple, for the most part. Since I use so many of the same products in my hair, and in the lotion I make, this routine is pretty cheap for me. I also love the fact that with a little bit of research, I found what really works for my skin, thanks internet!

This is so great! I love that you use such natural products. They work so well!
ReplyDeleteI think I will try my coconut oil as a makeup remover. I bought it to use more as a face wash/moisturizer but was finding it wasn't quite enough to clean my face. I think if I try what you're doing and just use a little to wipe off the makeup it might work better. And I LOVE tea tree stuff!
ReplyDeleteI really love all the natural products you put on your face. That soap is one my favorites!

I'm currently trying using nothing on my face and seeing what happens! If I do go back to skincare then I do think I will take a natural approach like you :) x

Since I was about 15 ish I have been a bit obsessed with facial care. I've tried lots of different products out and lots of things failed. I have quite oily skin so I like to balance that out. Mostly trial and error (mostly error haha), but in the last few months I think I've found some good products and got a good routine down. I've not tried more DIY/natural/simple products though, maybe this is the next stage :)
ReplyDeleteit's fabulous you use natural items. i need to do that more.

You've got a great system worked out for yourself. I don't wear makeup very often but if I do I use coconut oil to remove it too. It works really well though I have to admit that I get a bit of it in my eyes and it makes my vision blurry for about an hour after. I like Dr Bronner's castile soap and I like olive oil soap for my face. I use Val's Veggie Bar.
