Remix: 90's vest
9:00 AM
When Kyle and I first started thirfting, it was usually for books or furniture. After reading many blogs about thirfting clothes, I thought I would try my hand at it. It was a very long process as I did not really know what I was doing. I bought tons of clothes I saw other bloggers wear, only to realize cute as they were, did not fit my own personal style. A lot of thrift stores don’t have fitting rooms, and I would just guess that certain clothes would fit, nope! There are loads of reasons why people donate clothes, one of them being fit. How many times I picked up a pair of size 5 jeans thinking they would fit, only to realize someone shrunk the hell out of them, and then donated them. I also am famous for picking up a skirt in the “medium” section, only to discover that it was a maternity skirt, and the waist would slide down on my own body.
Eventually I learned my way around, dresses and skirts can be belted if a little too big. Belts, scarves, and purses were typically in the best shape and a lot cheaper than department stores. One of the best discoveries of thirfting: check the miscellaneous section. You will find everything from Halloween costumes to formal wear, ice skates to slip & slides.
I found this really cool 90’s vest that I wore nonstop after finding it, and then after rediscovering it this summer, wore it to death again. It makes many outfits look anywhere from 80’s punk to 90’s grunge to slightly country. I have worn this dress to dance-clubs and to coffee shops. I even wore it the day I met Hiddles. It is fine vest indeed ;)

I think my favorite outfit is the vest with the red shirt, black shorts and black tights and red shoes! Super cute.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love Mr. Sideburns in the background of the one with you and Mariah!
It's fun to see your ever changing hair too.
Lastly, I love your style. You wear so many things that I would never wear and that if I saw on the rack or on someone else I would probably think is ugly. Yet on you it's just so perfect and cute! I am jealous of your unique sense of style. I feel like my style is so plain and boring. I don't know what my 'style' is. I just wear whatever.
Will definitely check the misc. section. I also find that it is best to go for accessories and purses when thrifting. Love all the various ways you've worn that vest.
ReplyDeleteOh, I live that picture of you and Tom. You are so inspiring in mixing up this item with your other wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteI always love your choice in boots, too!

ReplyDeleteI love the denim vests, I own so many of them! I really like your blog! It would be nice if you could stop by my blog sometime too (I'm from England) as I post my outfits, likes and more. Also, if you wanted to follow each other on FB, just let me know and I would be happy to! :) :)

Yep...I'm pretty sure that I need a denim vest in my life ASAP!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a fabulous vest that can be worn with many things as you have proven. Thrifting clothes is NOT easy! You brought up some great points! You also have to look at the condition of the garment too! Zippers, rips, discoloration etc. I donate a lot of my clothes, but I'm also buying more off of eBay. Some people get rid of most of their wardrobe at the end of the season.
