Leftovers
6:25 PM
As I mentioned earlier this week, we went to three dinners yesterday, the first at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ferndale, which is Kyle's family's church, where we said good-bye to some friends that are going to be moving to Florida in the next two weeks Jakie and Neil Sr. Kyle's Mom Debbie was pretty close with them, and actually helped them set up the dinner and stayed all day, Kyle and I are friends with their son Neil, but as luck would have it, we had just missed him by a half-hour. Neil is going to be staying in the mitten, so I am hoping to catch up with him over winter break, we have much Elvis Costello and Weezer to discuss.
Next we headed off to my Mom and Dad's for our main feast! My Mom actually cooks two turkey's every year, my Dad's and mine (we get them free at work). She cooks one in the oven, and one in the roaster. My oven at the apartment is too small to cook anything in because only the bottom heats up and you have to use the middle tray or else everything will burn, and therefore very little fits in it. I actually didn't cook anything this year, but I stick by the excuse of working and going to school full-time. I figure when I graduate I will attempt to cook a family meal.
Besides two giant birds, my Mom made: mashed potatoes, corn, green bean casserole, corn bread, sweet potatoes, stuffing, cranberry relish, apple, pumpkin and lemon cheesecake pie. My aunt made some yummy cheese biscuits with bacon in them too. Everything was wonderful and we even made up little Turkey Day plates for all the dogs with the scraps!
Then we headed over to Kyle's brother Rich's house and his wife Renee made up a dinner as well. Thankfully they already ate and were just snaking on everything so we did the same. Renee makes the best cheesy potatoes! All the kids were hopped up on sugar but they were cracking me up. It was nice seeing everyone because we typically only get a chance on the holidays, but I was so glad when we finally got home and had the chance to rest our feet. Kyle went straight for the sale ads and I went straight for my pajamas, seems a little out of order huh? Sadly, I had to work today so I didn't get a chance to go out, but it looks like Kyle founds some great deals online so there should be some packages headed our way in the next week! I am so excited and I can't wait to share with you guys what we got :) For now I am finishing up editing photos (you will get to see outfit photos of my Turkey Day look) and heading out to take Louie for a walk before cleaning the apartment and settling down to do yet even more homework. There will be lots of running around this weekend as well, so hopefully the next few posts will be more than homework updates.

ReplyDeleteYum cheddar bacon biscuits! Sounds like a delicious Thanksgiving. The closest I got to celebrating turkey day this year was eating a brie and cranberry bagel...the one time I've been depressed that I'm in the UK. Oh, well. I can live vicariously through your photos
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! I love big family get-togethers like that, even though my family rarely does them. The food sounds delicious too!
