Thanksgiving Parade 2014
11:02 AM
Okay, my last Thanksgiving post, I promise! But in all honesty, the Thanksgiving parade is also a holiday parade, so huzzah for all of the holidays!
Kyle and I stayed up waaaay too late Wednesday night, we *may* have been consuming a lot of mead with friends and my brother Mark. We got home around 10 pm, and that is when I drunkenly decided to start cooking everything that I needed to cook for the following day: sweet potato pie (made w/coconut oil this time, came out great!), potato leak soup, and cherry chip cupcakes w/cherry sauce & chocolate ganache, as well as some veggie stock. After consuming a pint of cider, three glasses of cheap rose, followed by three glasses of mead, I think I did pretty well. So what if there was chocolate all over everything. We didn't go to bed until about 2 am, but we still dragged our exhausted butts downtown to see the parade, where Kyle's brother Chris met up with us after about an hour (we totally got there too early, whoops).
I love the parade, I really do. but the cold was brutal. I stuck it out as long as I could, but when I could no longer feel my toes, we headed into one of the bars to use the bathroom, and then went and got some coffees. Kyle and Chris went back out to take more pics, and I hid in the lobby of one of the buildings until my feet became useful again. I swear though, a decent cup of coffee does wonders for your mood.
We ended up staying until the very end, where we saw Santa and his creepy, giant headed elves. I am really glad that Kyle took so many pics, because I was way too lazy.
After the parade was over, we rushed home to try to take a quick nap, but the dogs weren't having it. So we washed up, packed up all of the food, and headed to my parent's house. We had a really good, and for the most part healthy, dinner. After, we went to the movies with Kyle's family, then headed out to our favorite local bar to have a few beers because our friend Ruby was hosting karaoke. I brought the cupcakes to the bar and we shared them with our friends that met up with us.
All in all, I think it was a really great day, even if it was exhausting. We have always had little traditions like going to the parade, and going to the movies, but it was kind of cool to see a few friends at the bar later that evening. It sucks having to work on Thanksgiving, but hopefully having friends visit you at work helps a little.

Kyle is styling! He was a big hit with the little old ladies in this hat, hehe. Anyways, I am already looking forward to my last few days off, but I have so much Christmas shopping and whatnot to do before then. Poop! I am going to just tackle a little at a time, and hope for the best. Happy Wednesday, everyone!

That sounds like so much fun, aside from the frozen toes part! I LOVE traditions...so much so that I may try to create too many to keep up with!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last time I saw a parade! Sounds like a lot of fun but a tad cold too. I'm always the one sneaky off because I'm freezing to death haha
ReplyDeleteWow! That is a big parade. We don't have anything to compare..I'm afraid. Wow! Factor for sure.
ReplyDeleteLove Kyle's hat. But I gotta tell you..I've been sick and that puts a really monkey ranch into the Christmas shopping too.
You weren't kidding... those elves ARE creepy! But it looks like a fun time. I haven't seen in a parade in soooo long so I really enjoyed your post!
