Fried Green Tomatoes
9:04 PM
Jessica Tandy in the hoooooouse! We had loads of green tomatoes last week, so Kyle kept pestering me to make fried green tomatoes. I love fried foods, but I am trying to avoid them so it was hard limiting myself to a couple. These ended up being pretty good, but I wanted sauce to go with them. I ended up just drizzling some hot sauce and ate them like that, came out pretty well. I see that the common sauce is remoulade sauce, so I will have to keep that in mind for next time.
Get
4 Medium Green Tomatoes
Sea Salt
1 Cup AP Flour
1 TSP Paprika
1 TSP Cayenne Pepper
1/2 Cup Milk
1 Egg
1/3 Cup Cornmeal
1/2 Cup Breadcrumbs
1/4 + Cups Peanut Oil
Slice up the tomatoes, mine were about 1/2 inch and a bit smaller. Sprinkle salt on the slices and set aside. Mix all the dry ingredients and leave in a bowl. Mix the egg and the milk in another bowl. Heat up oil in a frying pan (you might need to add more oil as you go). Dip the tomato slice in the egg mixture, make sure it is coated, then in the flour mixture, again, making sure it is coated. Fry up to four at a time in the pan, about 2-3 minutes per side. Set aside on paper towel to cool and repeat with the rest of the slices.
Kyle took the leftovers to work, heated them in an oven and put spicy mustard on them, so that is an option too. Either way, noms.
