Tiger Stadium Dog Party!

Two weeks ago, it was cold and raining and an overall gross day, but I still managed to pack up Louie in my car to take him to the pop-up dog party at Tiger Stadium. My Brother and his girlfriend tagged along, just incase I needed help with Louie, and also because PUPPIES.

For those of you who live outside of Michigan, there obviously isn't a stadium here anymore. Historic Tiger Stadium was replaced with Comerica Park in the year 2000, and in 2009 the stadium was finally torn down. Since the Spring of 2010, the Navin Field Grounds Crew, a group of volunteers, have kept up the maintenance of the park.

Now, on the 3rd Saturday of every month, the park is invaded by puppies!

When we first pulled up on Michigan ave, Louie was already crying in the car because he could see the other dogs playing. Louie tends to be scared of people, but he loves other dogs. I thought this would be a good opportunity for him to get used to being around people a little more, and of course play.

The entire park is fenced in, so it is awesome that all of the dogs have a chance to run around without a leash. I left Louie's harness on just incase he needed to be quickly leashed back up, but he was actually very well behaved. When we first arrived just after 11am, there were maybe about twelve dogs. About half an hour later, there were closer to 25 dogs. Louie had a blast! He ran around, sniffed things, and had a great time. He even did very well around all of the people that were there.  However, once more and more dogs arrived, he got a little nervous and would not stray far from my side. He may look like a moose, but he is a giant baby.

Since Kyle was unable to make it, I was stuck trying to take photos. Some came out okay, but I was unable to get some of all of the dogs. I guess this means I will have to do another post, maybe in the spring/summer when it isn't so gross out. Best part is: Dogs don't care about weather.

If you live in the area and would like to bring your dog down, here are the details:

It is the third Saturday of every month, from 11am to 1pm.
Dogs must be non-aggressive.
Bring bags to clean up after your dog.
You are welcome to bring treats, but just make sure you ask before giving them to another person's dog.

There is also occasionally an after-party at PJ's lager house, they welcome well-behaved dogs in the bar.  I obviously did not partake in this, as Louie is not behaved enough for that. Might try when the weather is warmer and the patio is open. Either way, it was a lot of fun and I am sure that we will partake again in the future.

  6. Awwww this is so sweet. I just love to hear stories of people who go to lots of effort to make their pets happy and who love them as much as I adore my kitty cat Juliette princess miracle. It sounds like Louie has such a cute personality, glad he had a great time.
