Mustard & Mint

Every once in awhile, someone will ask me for advice on fashion. I always feel very terrible because as much as I like pawing through fashion magazines and shopping, I don't feel that I am really fashionable. This is a large part a personal style blog, which I have always translated to: "Here is an outfit that I like". Still, I am always flattered, but I never really know what to say.

Obviously matching has never been a concern of mine, as well as wearing the appropriate attire for each season, not to mention wearing age-appropriate items...but I can give one piece of advice: Fit. Wear clothes that fit, and you are good to go. Make sure you try things on when you can in stores, because each one is different, and they sell different brands and what one company thinks is a size 6, could also be a 4 or an 8 in another (also, because clothing companies are dicks and cannot decide on ONE size, and want to please people by making them think they can wear a size down, very, very wrong). Bring a tape measure to the thrift store as well, things have been stretched out and shrunk before donated, so you never know.

However, if you really love an item of clothing and it does not fit perfectly, there might be a way around it. If you really love your jeans and they are a little too tight, try balancing them with a long tunic on top. Have a dress that is too big? try layers or belting it. Tuck a giant top into a fitted skirt, etc.

Also: Don't ever tuck a thick sweater into a skirt made of thin material. I mean, there are a lot of sexy pregnant women out there, but  unless you are aiming for that look...*un-tucks sweater from skirt*
