My favorite part of summer is always at the very end, because that is when the Michigan Renascence Festival takes place. Knights, jousting, washing well wenches, Dead Bob, Pirates, fairies, Shrek, and Doctor Who….what those have to do with the renfest is beyond me. However, the renfest is a haven for dorks of all kind, so the kid dressed as Harry Potter is welcome just as much as the guy doing some David Bowie-Labyrinth thing with orbs. It is the place to feast on giant turkey legs, and soup in a bread-bowl, chug cider, and beer! Yell “HUZZAH!!” For almost no apparent reason! Gawk at the shirtless guys and the women in corsets, heckle the performers, and sing along to the inappropriate Boca tunes.

Yes my friends, this is a fantastic time of year. We even christened my youngest brother Liam’s renfest virginity this year, he loved it. He fell in love with the jousting, was terrified by Shrek, and wanted everything, as most children do. We even had a chance to see our friend and favorite bartender Pauly perform with his musical group “Stone Clover”, they were amazing. Needless to say, we had a blast and I am already anticipating constructing an awesome costume for next year. HUZZAH!!

  8. Rob and I went to the Renaissance Faire every single year for years until Leto was about 1.5 or 2.5. I grew weary of all the horrible sexual remarks made. I mean my husband went when he was 12 once and was asked by a breast bearing wench if he'd "ever been wenched before"... He was 12, you don't ask a child such things! Anyway, I love the faire but stuff like that got on our nerves. Shrek looks so great!!! This looks so similar to the one that we attended in NY. I adore the picture of the piggy!!!! So cute!!!!
