Whew this weekend has been crazy with all of the cleaning, homework, shopping & house-stuff. Kyle and I finally ventured out to Ikea in Canton yesterday and spent almost the entire day in there! We walked the showroom first to figure out what we wanted to get first, everything was so cute and awesome, but I was overwhelmed by all of the people. I have an anxiety around crowds, but it never keeps me away from them. Instead, Kyle kept joking that the zombies were going to attack while we were at Ikea so, I really shouldn't let the people bother me. Oy. We were originally on a mission for some big bookshelves, originally. I made up a check list months ago for all of the things that I wanted to get for the house, and a detailed list for each room. I had made the mistake of showing the list to Kyle (I had made it up in excel and I was very proud of myself), and we basically spent way too much money in the store. We got bookshelves, rugs, wood blinds, silverware, food storage bins, a thermos, a clock, candles, a tea light lamp, garbage cans, curtain rods, and a few other things. We also had a free lunch because they deducted the food bill off of your purchase over $100, yum!

We ended up putting our bookshelves up last night and it took about two hours. The worst part is, I recently went through all of the books and took out any duplicates or anything that we didn't want and there are still books stacked up on the floor! We are probably going to get more of the same shelves to replace the other two smaller ones, I have already got plans for those too, but it is going to have to wait because we already spent so much money. Kyle is even going back on Tuesday to pick up a few more things that would not fit in the car. I am so excited because I feel like the house is really coming along now. Between the Salvation Army, Garage sales, Etsy and now Ikea, we are really making a dent. Even though I bought paint for the kitchen, I am going to wait until after I graduate to paint all the rooms now, but I think that will be good for me. The first project after my school career is over is painting the rooms in my house, I think that would be a great start to a new year.

Okay I guess I should mention the outfit, hehe. As most of you know, there has been a giant heat-wave in the States the past week. Michigan has been disgustingly humid, the air feels like cake-batter on your skin and the power has been going on and off. Needless to say, I have not felt like wearing anything remotely cute and if I do, I am just a big sweaty mess by the time I get home. These items are some faves of mine, the dress I have had for about two years now and you guys have seen it a million times, but I love it. The cardigan is an older item I bought from Old Navy years ago and I can't seem to part with it. The necklace was a my bridesmaid gift from Anne, she made one for all of us and I love it, and the flats are from OU, Mariah bought them in the wrong size and gave them to me. A true favorite outfit!

  3. Lets hope Kyle is sweet when putting up book shelves. My brothers curse like sailors..it brings out the worst in them..even if it looks really good afterwards. I've never been to one of those store.

  5. Aaaww.. I could practically live in IKEA I think! I love everything they have! And from a designer's point of view the quality vs. price ratio is pretty good! I've bought a lot of our furniture and decorated 4 more houses with IKEA stuff as a freelance designer and loved it! (I do that sometimes, it is what I've studied for actually). But unlike you and Kyle, I'm the handyman of our little family, so I did all the assembling on my own! (George, my man, is hopeless when it gets to tools)!
Your outfit is so adorable and so you, that I want to jump through the screen and give you a hug!! Kisses dear!

p.s. - Sorry for the long comment, but it's been a while since I left a comment! I do read every post you make! :)

  19. Holy cow, you guys have been very ambitious! But that's totally a good thing. Rather do it now than let the time slip away and never do it.
Your plans for the place sound really exciting as well.

This outfit has the perfect mixture of simplicity and dress-up and that necklace is really cute.
